Theory
Claude Levi-Strauss: His theory of binary opposites is relevant to my TV show, as it features the opposition of healthy vs unhealthy. This is to do with the food Dudley eats and also the personalities of the unhealthy Dudley and the healthy Dr.Alan.
Uses & Gratifications: This theory applies to my TV show as it gives viewers some of the uses & gratifications, such as information and education, as it gives viewers an insight into other people's lives in their society, and also has educational elements such as when Dr.Alan explains the unhealthy aspects of food.
Todorov: Todorov's narrative structure has the stages of: Equilibrium, disruption of equilibrium, recognition of disruption, attempt to repair and new equilibrium. Dudley's equilibrium of his eating habit is disrupted when Dr.Alan arrives, and they work together to create a new equilibrium where Dudley has a healthier diet.
Steve Neale- The theory of repetition and difference applies to my show as it is a new take on a tried and tested formula. There are many shows where people get help to change their diets and try and change their lives etc. but 'Crazy eating habits of the UK' has a USP of focusing on four separate cases per episode, with each case being very shocking and not just someone with a bad diet, but someone with a very dangerous and weird habit.
