My magazine double page spread ideas.

My double page spread will be similar to one found in lifestyle magazines such as Elle and Cosmopolitan. It will be an interview with the two main characters in the show: Dudley and Dr. Alan. There will be a big image of them on one of the pages with a quote pasted over a part of the image that is eye-catching from the interview. The other page will be taken up with the text from the interview, with some striking quotes made larger and put in the middle and edges of the page. I may also include some smaller images that are shots from the actual show. Include a sidebar on a slightly different issue.
Introduction:
'Crazy eating habits of the UK' is a new documentary series on Channel 5, at 9pm on Thursdays. It's hosted by Dr.Alan who is a doctor who specialises in helping people with their diet.

Interview questions:
Question for Dr.Alan: 'Can you describe the process of making the documentary and what inspired you to make it?'
Answer: 'With obesity in the news, we thought it was a good time to capitalise on the current awareness and help people to change their lives.'

Question for Dr.Alan: 'How did you find making this series and going up and down the whole of the UK?'

Answer: 'The travelling took a long time and it was quite hard going across to so many different places in a short space of time, but when you see how you can help people make positive changes to their lives, it makes it worth it.'

Question for Dudley: 'Dudley, were you aware at all how dangerous your old ways were before Dr. Alan helped you?'

Answer: 'Well, I knew that it wasn't normal because I was always getting weird looks and responses from people, but I actually had no idea of just how dangerous it really was. If Dr.Alan hadn't helped me I wouldn't still be here today.'

Question for Dudley: 'It's very brave how you exposed your own personal problems on national TV. What made you decide to do it?'

Dudley: 'Well it wasn't really my idea, my dad and mate convinced me to when I saw just how worried they really were about me.'
Question for Dr.Alan- 'Is that how you find all your people from the show?'
Dr.Alan: 'It's half and half, a lot of people do come from being recommended or persuaded by close friends and family, and also a lot of people realise themselves that they need help, and sign up for the show themselves.'
Question for Dudley: 'So how did this habit start and how long was it going on for?'
Dudley: 'It all started years ago, back to when I was still a kid. When my mum left, it meant my dad was now responsible for 100% of the cooking for me, and one time I vomited so badly after eating vegetables I vowed to just never eat them again and stick to what I loved. My dad never had much time to be ambitious in the kitchen so he just let me eat what I wanted and from then on it just spiralled out of control over the years.'
Question for Dr.Alan: 'Is that a common cause of a lot of the habits you encounter?'
Dr.Alan: 'There's a really wide range of causes for the habits. It is fairly common that if the habit came from childhood then a cause may be a lack of cooking from parents, or parents who let their children eat whatever they want.'
Question for Dr.Alan: 'What other ones are there?'
Dr.Alan: 'There really are loads of them, but some of the other common ones would be when people simply don't know what is good and bad for them, there are lots of environmental factors such as financial issues and limited access to sources for good food. Also, some medication can cause issues with people's appetites and make them eat way more or way less than they should be, and bad foods too.'
Q: Is there really no way that you would have attempted to get help from Dr.Alan if your friends and family hadn’t pressured you to?

DUDLEY: ‘No, I didn’t think anything bad was happening.’

Q: Is there anything you would like to tell Dr.Alan now that he’s helped you?

DUDLEY: ‘I guess just that I really can’t thank you enough, I was eating myself into a life threatening situation, and you helped me get out of it. But not just, that you really helped me make a positive change to my life and that’s something that I honestly can’t thank you enough for.’

Q: And is there anything you’d like to tell Dudley?

DR.ALAN: ‘I’m really proud of you Dudley, from doing this show I understand just how hard it is to make a positive change to something that you’ve been doing for years and years of your life, and seeing just how much you’ve changed for the better fills me with pride.’

  1. How will you lay this out on the page? Perhaps you could create some layout designs?
